Query Modifiers

Name Symbol Description
Quotation Marks "  " Quotation marks are used to denote exact phrases.
Plus Operator + The plus operator placed before a word or phrase requires that all returned pages contain that search term.
Minus Operator - The minus operator placed before a word or phrase excludes all documents containing that search term.
Wildcards * Use an asterisk to find pages containing words that begin or end with the same letters.

Boolean Operators

AND & Finds only documents containing all of the specified words or phrases.
OR | Finds documents containing at least one of the specified words or phrases.
NOT ! Excludes documents containing the specified word or phrase.
NEAR ~ Finds documents containing both specified words or phrases within 10 words of each other.
  ( ) Use brackets to group complex boolean phrases.
