This course focuses on the integration of technology into the school curriculum. It explorers educational and management software, productivity tools, emerging technologies, instructional strategies, trouble shooting, and key issues and trends related to technology in the teaching and learning environment
Within the model of the teacher as developing professional, this class will fulfill the requirements of specialty knowledge and professional knowledge in the area of researching educational sites on the Internet. The teacher as a cognitive mediator, communicator, researcher, and evaluator will be considered in the content of this course.
Cognitive Mediator:
1. Students will be able to integrate word
processing programs into their teaching area.
2. Students will be able to integrate PowerPoint presentations into
their teaching area.
3. Students will be able to integrate database programs into their
teaching area.
4. Students will be able to integrate spreadsheet programs into their
teaching area.
5. Students will be able to integrate desktop publishing programs
into their teaching area.
6. Students will be able to integrate the Internet into their
teaching area.
7. Students will be able to trouble shoot computer problems in their
school or district.
Communicator:
1. Students will report on technology research in classroom discussions.
Researcher:
1. Students will research writing activities for
classrooms on the Internet.
2. Students will research PowerPoint activities for classes on the
Internet.
3. Students will research desktop publishing activities for
classrooms on the Internet.
4. Students will research database activities for classrooms on the
Internet.
5. Students will research spreadsheet activities for classrooms on
the Internet.
6. Students will research curriculum sites for classes on the
Internet.
7. Students will research trouble shooting techniques for PCs and
Macintosh computers.
8. Students will research classroom management techniques for using
technology in classrooms and technology labs.
Evaluator:
1. Students will learn to use and evaluate
keyboarding programs.
2. Students will learn to use and evaluate K-12 content software
programs.
3. Students will learn to use and evaluate Internet Curriculum
Sites.
Course Evaluation:
Cognitive Mediator:
Objectives 1- 7 will be assessed by completion of projects for each topic.
Communicator:
Objective 1 will be assessed by presentations of technology journal articles in class.
Researcher:
Objective 1-8 will be assessed by the completion
of research sites on their web page.
Evaluator:
Objective 1-3 will be assessed by completing evaluation forms for the software and Internet sites students will preview.
