Course Description
This course will give students experience in exploring and evaluating education sites on the Internet. Students will learn to create their own educational web page using Microsoft FrontPage.
Prerequisites: None
Recommended FrontPage manual: Teach Yourself Visually
FrontPage by Ruth Maran. IDG Books Worldwide

Knowledge Base:
Within the model of the teacher as developing professional, this class will fulfill the requirements of specialty knowledge and professional knowledge in the area of integrating technology into school curriculums. The teacher as a cognitive mediator, communicator, researcher, and evaluator will be considered in the content of this course. As cognitive mediator, the developing professional will be able to help students become independent learners who construct meaning by combining new information with their own background knowledge. As communicator, the developing professional is skilled in modes of communication that will enable effective communication and collaboration with other educators, parents, and families. As researcher, the developing professional will be able to improve educational practices within the school setting, using an inquiry approach to serve students more effectively. As evaluator, the developing professional will be able to maximize students' learning by using a full range of formal and informal information-gathering processes in order to respond appropriately to student individual differences.
Professional Education Requirements
This class was designed to show alignment with the USF School of Education's "Teacher as Developing Professional" Curriculum Model and the South Dakota Professional Education Requirements -SDPER24:16:08:36 - K-12 Educational Technology which includes:
1) Demonstrating knowledge of basic computer technologies and networking concepts, terminology tools and applications;
2) Developing skills with current productivity and multimedia tools for education; and
3) Demonstrating competencies with integrating educational technology to support teaching and learning.
Course Objectives:
Cognitive Mediator:
Students will be able to create their own personal educational web page.
Students will be able to use their web page with the Internet sites as an aid in showing teachers how to use it as a source of materials for professional development, student sites, and teacher sites in their area of teaching.
Communicator:
Students will develop a web page with information and activities for the classes they teach and for educational leadership issues.
Researcher:
Students will use the Internet to identify and select education sites for their web page.
Students will use the Internet to find research on using the Internet in the classroom and will write a critique on their findings.
Students will use the Internet to find research on using WebQuests in the classroom and will write a critique on their findings.
Students will use the Internet to research topics on educational leadership issues in technology and complete a scavenger hunt for teachers.
Students will use the Internet to research topics in their area of teaching and complete a nine-frame clickable worksheet for students.
Evaluator:
Students will locate and evaluate student sites, teacher sites, professional development sites, and other educational sites on the Internet.
Assessment:
Cognitive Mediator
Objective 1 will be assessed with a checklist of required items on the student's web page.
Objective 2 will be assessed with completion of a web page for school leadership.
Communicator
Objective 1 will be assessed with a checklist of required items on the student's web page.
Researcher
Objective 1 will be assessed through classroom discussions and a checklist of required items.
Objectives 2 - 3 will be assessed through classroom discussions, written critiques, and printouts of research found on the Internet.
Objectives 4 &endash; 5 will be assess by a checklist of requirements.
Evaluator:
Objective 1 will be assessed through completion of a website evaluation checklist.
