Look up a Word Online

 

Highlight a word with your cursor

Right-click

Choose “Look up . . .”

A Research pane to the right of your document will open up with the definition of the highlighted word. Click on the drop-down arrow and you can also fine a Thesaurus, Translation and search sites.

 

Sorting Text

 

 Word 2007 can sort test such as a list of people’s names, class names, items, etc.

 

Highlight the list of names with your mouse.

On the HOME tab click on SORT (A/Z).

The SORT TEXT dialog box will appear.

Choose ASCENDING or DESCENDING.

Click ok to close dialog box.

 

 

Add a Watermark

 

On the PAGE LAYOUT tab choose WATERMARK. Click on CUSTOM WATERMARK.

To insert a picture as a watermark choose PICTURE WATERMARK.

Choose the size you want from SCALE or leave it as AUTO.

Check WASHOUT

Click on SELECT PICTURE and find the picture you want to use as a watermark.

Click APPLY.

 

To insert a Text Watermark choose TEXT WATERMARK

Choose the TEXT, FONT, SIZE, COLOR, and LAYOUT that you want. Click APPLY.

 

 

Add Line Numbers

 

Word can automatically count the lines in a document and display the appropriate number beside each line of text. This is useful if you need to refer to specific lines in a document.

 

Add line numbers to an entire document

 

On PAGE LAYOUT tap choose LINE NUMBERS.

Click on CONTINUOUS.

 

To remove the number lines go click on LINE NUMBERS and choose NONE.

 

Display Word Count

 

On the REVIEW tab choose ABC/123.

A Word Count box will appear.

A Word Count toolbar will appear displaying the total word count.

 

Add a Drop Cap

 

Position your cursor at the beginning of a paragraph where you would like to see a drop cap.

On the INSERT tab choose DROP CAP.

A dialogue box will appear.

Select DROPPED or IN MARGIN

OR

Click on DROP CAP OPTIONS. Click on DROPPED.

Select the FONT you want to use.

Increase or decrease the Lines to Drop to increase or decrease the size of the Drop Cap letter.

Select DISTANCE FROM TEXT to make the Drop Cap letter more or less removed from the paragraph.

Click OK.

 

Insert Checkmark

 

Need a checkmark to note as a completed task?

On the INSERT tab click on Symbol. Fine the symbol you want and click on it.

It will insert it into your document where your cursor is.

 

Inserting a Comment

 

Place your cursor where you want the Comment inserted.

On the REVIEW tab click on NEW COMMENT.

It will insert a comment box that you can type your comments in.

 

 

 


 

Shapes: In the INSERT tab click on Shapes and click on the shape you want. The cursor will become a crossbar. Click and draw the shape where you want it on your screen.

 

Paragraph Spacing: to double-space a paragraph click anywhere in the paragraph and then CTRL +2. For single spacing use CTRL + 1.

 

Printing Tip – Shrink to Fit: Click on the OFFICE BUTTON and choose PRINT. Choose PRINT PREVIEW. Click on SHRINK ONE PAGE.
